19th edition: To the Black Sea (Route 35)

To Transylvania and beyond

Route introduction

Let’s go to Transylvania! And ever further. We’ll venture to the shores of the enigmatic, stubborn sea which marks the very edge of Europe. This journey will take us from Vienna to Venus. Now we sense your confusion. Trust us. This is a journey to Romania. For travellers from western Europe, most routes to Romania lead through Vienna, which has a fine range of rail links to Romania. That’s why Jonathan Harker came this way. Remember Jonathan? He was the diligent young solicitor in Bram Stoker’s Dracula who travelled by train to Transylvania to meet a client.
